Women Elders Offer Their Vision for Our Planet
Carol Schaefer
For hundreds of years, indigenous cultures from around the world have carried a prophecy: when the world is ready, an International Council of Thirteen Grandmothers will appear to help save the planet and remind human beings of what is most essential and sacred to life. In 2004, this prophecy became a reality. Women elders from North, South, and Central America, Mexico, Asia, and Africa gathered in New York for the first International Council.
Some women had been told early in childhood that this was their destiny, and they were overjoyed to see the prophecy finally come true. They said it was already very late, and there was no more time to waste. I had two friends who attended that first gathering, and it changed their lives. This book introduces these thirteen remarkable women, tells their fascinating stories, and offers their voices and wisdom to the world.
