The Early Inspirational Writings of Sue Monk Kidd
Sue Monk Kidd
|
Sue Monk Kidd has given the world remarkable books, so I was intrigued to listen to her early writings here in Firstlight. It is fascinating to see how a writer began and how she changes and grows over time. Gleaned from material she wrote for Guideposts and other small publications years ago, these stories and essays capture the first yearnings of Kidd's soul, her doubts and inner knowing, and the reflections and wonder of her ''dawning'' opening heart. We hear about pivotal moments in her life -- what it meant to become a mother, a wife, a nurse, and a writer. Kidd is a marvelous storyteller, and she captures ordinary moments of daily life in vivid detail. And, always, she creates beauty and meaning through her thoughts and words. I loved listening to these short vignettes. The reader is Southern, like Kidd, and her voice is rich, sonorous, and alive. Each vignette is like hearing a fine piece of music -- complete in itself, with a message that leaves one deeply nourished, satisfied, and renewed. Listening to this audio could greatly help someone who is ill or dying, or anyone who is seeking or simply needs some hope and meaning in their days. Though the stories are from Kidd's life, they are universal experiences of what it means to be human, seeking the gifts and ''firstlight'' of coming home to the Divine.
