I love wind chimes, but because I live in such close proximity to my neighbors, I've never felt comfortable putting them out on my patio. These are the ''chimes'' for me. They're not really chimes at all in the traditional sense of wind chimes, but beautiful bells that are a work of art. Each bell is made of iron, hand-beaten and then coated with fine brass and copper powder before being blasted in the fire, giving it a luminous, burnished look. These bells have a long history in India, originally being used as cow-bells. A cooperative of highly skilled bell-makers tone each bell, making sure they get the exact pitch for each note of the Indian scale (Sa-Re-Ga-Ma is the Indian equivalent to our Do-Re-Mi-Fa). While each of the seven bells has its own beautiful tone, replicating the entire Indian musical scale, it would take a hurricane to make them annoy even the closest neighbors. So everyone wins. You, the bell-makers, as it provides them all with a much-needed livelihood (in a Fair Trade partnership), and any wind chime-loathing neighbors you may have! Because these are handmade, they may vary slightly in color and design from what is pictured.
