One Narcissist's Quest to Discover If Her Life Makes Her Ass Look Big or Why Pie Is Not the Answer
Jen Lancaster
WATCH VIDEO OF AUTHOR JEN LANCASTER
Okay, I am going to say right up front that this book is not for everyone. It contains raunchy and raucous language and is a memoir by a very colorful, outspoken writer. That being said, this is one of the funniest books I have ever read. I mean it. Laugh-out-loud, milk-through-your-nose funny. Wake-up-your-partner-next-to-you-at-2:30am-because-you-can't put-the-book-down-and-you-are-snorting-out-loud funny.
If you have ever tried to diet or lose weight, this book is for you (again, if you don't mind the language). Jen Lancaster decided to chronicle her journey through diet hell as she tried to take off 100 pounds. She tried all the diet programs (and she names names!), online programs, gym membership, personal trainer, will power — you get the picture. And she takes us along for the ride. As someone who has also tried it all, I was right there with her as she eats her puny portion of prepackaged diet food across the table from her normal-weight husband digging into a just-grilled rib eye. Or as she tried to muster up enthusiasm for yet another trip to the gym. Or as she tried not to think about the bottle of ice cold Chardonnay in the refrigerator. I have been there in my own life, but it wasn't nearly as funny as when she was going through it!
I thoroughly enjoyed every single page of this book. I kept telling my husband that I wanted Jen to be my new best friend. Anyone who could make something as hideous as losing weight be funny is someone I need in my life. So get this book — it is the next best thing! Oh, by the way, when I finished it, I made my hubby read it and he loved it, too.
