When jewelry designer Anna Balkan was growing up in the Ukraine, her favorite story was ''The Fisherman and the Golden Fish.'' When she arrived in New York City in 1992, without a job, speaking only Russian, and with $100 to her name, this story reminded her to always be a giver rather than a taker. Anna studied and worked very hard, and along the way, she never forgot to give back through her many philanthropic endeavors. Today, her jewelry has reached red carpet status, and Anna is living her dream. This necklace is symbolic of Anna's journey.
She chose the red pearl to represent the love and passion behind all her hard work, and the smoky quartz because it is known as the stone of protection. Most importantly, Anna included her beloved golden fish, auspicious in many cultures and a reminder of one's priorities; in Anna's case, to be a giver in life. Sounds like a perfect recipe for success: passion, hard work, protection, some good luck, and always remembering to give back. May you wear it and prosper! The pearl, smoky quartz and vermeil fish all hang from a vermeil chain.
