WATCH WATER.COM VIDEO
One of my favorite restaurants, and definitely one of the hippest, doesn't have bottled water on the menu. It's a global warming, carbon footprint thing. If you want water, you get a bottle pretty much like this one on your table.
Transporting bottled water from source to consumer uses an indecent amount of energy and spews out an equally indecent amount of pollution. (And ''source,'' as you may know, has been found to sometimes be just tap water!) There's also the environmentally destructive plastic bottle issue. It's insanity. Lack of clean water is the second largest killer of children under age five, and nearly 900 million people worldwide lack access to it.
Using your own tap water to fill this 1-liter glass bottle will go a long way toward reducing the environmental impact of commercial bottled water on our precious planet. It will also help to provide children around the world with safe drinking water because a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the charity water.org (watch video). Keep a couple in the fridge, and put them on the table where you might normally put your bottled water, knowing that you are doing the right thing for the planet and for some of the millions of people for whom clean water is a near-impossibility.
