My friend Diane could be canonized as the Patron Saint of Squirrels. Although the squirrels in San Diego's East County are usually skinny, scraggly little creatures, the ones she's feeding in her backyard look like contenders for the Westminster Kennel Club Show. Diane's dilemma is she's just as passionate about goldfinches, and between the squirrels and big birds in her yard, small birds like finches don't stand a chance. She was the perfect person to give this feeder for small birds a test run.
