Scientifically Designed Music by Dr. Lee R. Bartel
Lee Bartel
The other night I just could not close my eyes. I tried reading, deep breathing, and even imagining myself on a beach in Hawaii, but nothing helped. When I've tried over-the-counter sleep aids in the past, I've walked around like a zombie for most of the next day, so I knew I didn't want to go that route. Then I remembered this CD of music scientifically designed to help bring on sleep. I had downloaded it to my iPod since the informative notes suggested using headphones when listening (a bonus for me since I was able to listen to it without waking my husband). Before I knew it, morning had come and I felt rested and refreshed.
There's solid science behind this amazing sleep CD. Since we need delta brainwaves to be dominant for us to fall asleep, and the stresses in life can leave our brain racing at the beta level (where it functions when we are working and alert), this CD of comforting music incorporates sonic effects that boost delta brainwave frequency to get our brain in a relaxed state. In addition, what's called brain basic low-frequency sound is included to stimulate gamma brainwave activity, which has been shown to help with insomnia. While the quite complex research behind these soothing sounds may be hard to describe, all I can say is that it works and I'm relieved I have something I can turn to on those nights when sleep just doesn't come. (Please note that this disk is not recommended if you have any seizure disorder that may respond negatively to sonic effects.)
